"Everything negative — pressure, challenges — is all an opportunity for me to rise"

—  Kobe Bean Bryant

NBA 2K12 official explains LeBron James’ superiority over Kobe Bryant

Miami’s LeBron James (98) and Dwyane Wade (96) were ranked just above Kobe Bryant (96). Pau Gasol’s poor playoff performance curiously still put him above Dirk Nowitzki at 86-85, while trailing New York’s Amare Stoudemire (88). Lastly, Andrew Bynum may rank second at center behind Orlando’s Dwight Howard, but their discrepancy in ranking (4-39) and points (93-79) provides more evidence Jim Buss shouldn’t cling to Bynum should Howard become available.

On James and Wade being ranked higher than Bryant

“Given that Kobe Bryant is reaching 33 years old and LeBron and Wade are in the prime of their careers right now, we had to take age into consideration. Kobe is still a great player overall, however.”

Mad, of course. But I guess I accept it since Kob turned 33 last month and entering his sixthteenth season. NBA 2K12 hits stores and our respective PlayStation 3 & Xbox 360’s Tuesday. Females, don’t say you haven’t been warned.

Kobe is coming for season number 16 (If there is one), he’s coming for that highly desirable sixth ring, which would of course tie him with that guy from those Hanes commercials, no not Charlie Sheen—winning and being the absolute best is still the motivation after all this time. But father time is coming as well. He’s not just on Kobe’s block in Orange County, but actually in Kobe’s house, kicking him in his right knee every now and then, in between play time with Natalia and Gianna, his daughters. But even daddy’s girls know Father Time is undefeated and is coming to claim another.

However, Kobe still plans to be going at championship level as long as he can, going back and forth, up and down the hardwood over at Staples. But he knows it isn’t going to be hard. He can’t come slashing through the lane past two-guards and small forwards and on top (Or through) opposing power forwards and centers like it’s 2003 (In honor of Yao’s retirement) again. Yeah, he has his flashback moments every now and then, but those don’t come as much as the pump fakes he has to unleash from his arsenal often these days. Even he said he has to use those things more. Why, cause of Father time. He’s getting older—well, he’ll be 34 the next time he plays in an NBA game. But lots and lots and lots of miles on that body of his. He’s played into June seven times (That’s 100 plus games from October to June), played for Team USA in two summers including winning Gold Medal in 2008 (Same year he won first and only MVP made his return to the June classic). 208 Playoffs games (That’s basically three extra seasons of playing time).

So he can’t do all the lightning fast crossovers and thunderous dunks like before, at least often. Yet, knowing he’s has to change his game at this point of his career, with so much wear and tear on his body, he’s still trying to be prepared as if it’s going into his rookie season, hungry as ever as if he doesn’t have any rings on his fingers. Even if it means flying to Germany to have an usual procedure done. Seemingly doing whatever it takes to be back in the winners circle in mid June once again, especially after what happen last May.

But what is killing me, as a Lakers fan, the stuff he’s doing during the off-season/lockout. From Dunks he has no business doing to rim pull-ups. What is this, Kob? The same guy who basically didn’t practice last season cause of that knee. If he get’s hurt, blow the remaining years he has left in the tank by doing this stuff, I’m (Along with other people who bleed purple & gold) gonna go insane. Someone needs to tell him to go sit his self down somewhere. I know he has his basketball camps & etc, and the kids entice him to entertain and do dunks…. but say no, man! Do more stuff like the E3 appearance for 2K12 last month, or beat more idiotic celebs in harmless games of one-on-one and win more of Bow Wow’s Like Mikemoney by beating him. Come to a Sparks game every now and then, his dad has taking over coaching duties as of this week. But anything but rim chin-ups and dunk contest dunks when it’s not 1997 in Cleveland. And God forbid he goes over seas to play during the lockout. I know Kobe will be ready when the season starts eventually, but at this point, I’m just hoping it won’t be like in 2000 on the bench, in a suit, in a cast.

Nike Zoom Kobe VI China; Release Date: This Saturday, March 5th

Since the All-Star colorway just may be out of my reach, might go after these instead

Apparently, there is some hoopla on the net and other places saying Kobe is either overrated or not the clutch player he is known to be. I’m not comprehending, there was some stat someone pulled out showing some active players in the league, players like Carmelo, LeBron, and others having better shooting percentages under a certain amount of time left in the 4th quarter and all that good stuff. It basically depicts Kobe isn’t as clutch as we all make him out to be.

Now I’m not a stats guy, I only resort to stats unless I must to get a feel of what went on during a game I didn’t see.  And I know stats are numbers, and numbers don’t lie, but if this shows how Kobe isn’t so clutch, why is he so wisely considered as the most clutch player of our generation? Even Jerry West, the logo, aka Mr. Clutch is saying he is too. If we was to have a poll, hell, I think know they already did this before a couple seasons back, but they can do it again. Have a poll for every player, every coach, and even every assistant coach, exclude Kobe himself from taking it, and ask everyone out of anyone in the NBA, who would they want in the final 2:00 minutes of a game. Not just in the last 10 seconds, down with the ball (That’ll make the percentages higher in my opinion). Just when you need buckets down the stretch, who will most likely get you them?

I promise, the numbers will be at least 90% in favor of Kobe. It’s like the obvious to anyone who is mentally stable, if you pick anyone else, your utterly insane. It’s like picking Zune’s over Apple… the field, over Kobe. Your crazy. I think in that stat graphic that was floating around, Carmelo and other has a better percentage than Kobe. LeBron, Dwyane, and a few others too, and even other who are are older than those three. That’s well and all, but people tend to forget, this is Kobe’s what, fifteenth season. And he’s been shooting balls in the clutch since 97 to now. Remember the airballs in that playoffs against Jazz? He was balls-in-up to take those when he shouldn’t have at that age. He had to learn things before he got to where he is now. That’s one reason why his percentage is lower than others.

But he’s still so damn clutch it puts absolute fear in the eyes of defenders and coaches over on the other bench in fourth quarters. And also, on Sunday, I’m on Twitter at work, and Y-O of U-N-I tweeted someone telling him Kobe is overrated. I couldn’t believe that, I retweeted with my comment and said it must be a LeBron fan, then Y-O replied to me saying he had no idea. Well, I have no idea either. No idea people bring up this mess after what this guy has done in his 15 seasons. I just don’t understand, and won’t. I know/understand people don’t like him, but seriously, you can’t deny is in game credentials.  Guess that’s what YouTube is for these days, huh?  YouTube is just as much proof as stats these days.

Today’s marks the five year anniversary of the 2nd greatest scoring performance in NBA history, and greatest, televised (If you didn’t know, Wilt’s 100 point game wasn’t televised so to this day, we’re going off what people saw in person). But I remember, that was during 2005-6 season, Phil Jackson just came back after a year off, but the Lakers still was a one a done team in the Playoffs. I mean, with the likes of Smush Parker and Kwame Brown at the top and bottom of the starting five, I don’t know why I thought they could actually go far in the playoffs. Oh wait, they literally was a stop away from a possible Finals berth that year (Go back and map it all out), damn you Tim Thomas!

But Kobe had a hell of a season, won his first scoring title that year with an average of 35.4. No scoring champion had average that much since, well do we even need to say his name? Then again, he did draft the Lakers starting center that year back in 2001, so he does seem a little bit less invincible in my eyes. Damn Mike, but Kwame Brown, though?!! But anywho, on this day KB24 dropped off a whopping 81 points on the Raptors (Jalen Rose, Morris Peterson, and etc… Uhhh 81? You get this for you’re amazing D five years ago).

But 81 points, I watched literally all the Lakers games, but wasn’t in front on the tube watching that game cause my sister’s birthday was days later and we went to dinner that night. Had to keep score under the table of course, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t. But I just remember after getting back to see most of the 4Q and eventually after the clock hit triple zero being like, damn.. 81? Really Kobe, that’s a lot, bro.  And from time to time I think, is there anyone who can score that much and/or even challenge Wilt’s 100. Long reason short, no.

LeBron couldn’t have even if he was still in Cleveland, Dwyane, Carmelo, A.I. (Before Europe ball) Gilbert (Before the guns & his own knees got to him), Durant now, ehh interesting, but don’t think he nor the rest can/could. And these all are/we’re the best suitors for topping Kobe’s 81. But the only person I think could have was Kobe himself, unbiased. Well before this day. He was (Well still is, but not as much) a scoring machine for the ages. And if it wasn’t for the the Pau “Trade” Kobe maybe, I’m not saying would have, but just maybe, could have challenged it at least once more and had us wondering, “Can he?”

But now, I think it’s a quite a distance to get to even for him and frankly don’t see anyone in the L’s who can make an attempt at at least 2nd place to Wilt. So let’s just marvel in Kobe with 81, in 3 minutes at the expense on the Toronto Raptors. (Again, sorry Jalen Rose, Morris Peterson, and etc.) 81 Points

At the end of the 3rd Quarter, Kobe Bryant over takes sole possession of 9th (26,716) with a running jumper going through lane in the All Time Scoring List. He passes The great Oscar “Big O” Robinson with this shot and now he’s behind Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon (26,946) then Elvin Hayes (27,313), he should pass them at some point this season. But dude is 32 years of age, fifteen years in, and he’s in the Top ten. It’s kinda crazy when you think about it. He’s 9th all time in scoring, those 40 and 50 point streaks, along with the 35.4 PPG season, and etc got him pretty high up there.  But I honestly don’t know where he’s going to end when it’s all said in down.

I think any fool can go look at the list and predict where he’s going to end up, but with Kobe, it’s different, he makes it difficult to pick. He’s getting older and his production suppose to be declining. He can play a good five more years, and see where he is then but it’ll depend on his productivity as he get’s older especially with injuries and etc.

But nonetheless it’s amazing when you sit and think, this is guy is actually Top 10 All-Time Scoring, passing the likes of Big O, Chuck, Jerry West, and Dominique Wilkins.

But 38,387, Damn Kareem. You and that Sky Hook, though.

Kobe’s Intro

I’m actually watching ESPN and SportsCenter finally after my much talked about issues with my cable provider and the rain marathon in Southern California, so I have shit to do before I head to the Lakers game later and I told myself I’m go leave do that shit after they play the Kobe Bryant interview they advertised about in the opening.

That was ten or fifteen minutes into this SportsCenter, I’m still waiting and it’s past 3:50. I hate when they do this shit, ESPN, the local news, etc., this is how they get you. Have a story you want to catch, tease about it, then have you watching the entire show so you don’t miss it.

But with this SportsCenter, it has the thing on the right side of the screen that tells you what’s next, and they haven’t even gotten to KB24. What pisses me off even more is, they of course through in Lebron/Heat talk with the Kobe teaser, and had the nerve to do a quick segment on the Heat’s winning streak getting snapped last night 7 minutes ago. And still now sign of Kobe.

And this is what they was asking him according to the teaser, how he feels about being disrespected by not getting attention when he’s won the title the last two years. Guess I’ll just have to go on the website and watch it.

After the first returns, Kobe Bryant is the Leading vote getter for the 60th NBA All-Star Game here in Los Angeles with 722,682 votes.

There was more art of him and old Laker greats by the Team LA Store, but I didn’t get picture of them, I’ll get more when I go to another game on the 21st when their back in town.

The first free throw was some boos, but came the second, the thunderous MVP chants surfaced.  Gotta love Lakers x Clippers Games (When the floor says Clippers in the middle)
